More Carolyn

I know it may seem like I only have one child... or that Carolyn must be my favorite because she is all I write about lately, but the truth is she is the one that is being particularly *active* lately. She graduated from high school, went through bartending school (along with Melinda--yay!), and has been submitting for restaurant jobs, and auditioning for indie films, student films and modeling shows ever since.

In August she will be moving to Tampa to share an apartment with Melinda to be closer to where most of such jobs are, and closer to Sarasota, where she is cast in one film, the super-natural thriller, "Line of Descent" (a popular genre these days). This film was formerly named "The Witching Hours", and I love the name change! It better describes the storyline, and doesn't sound so "trick or treat". In this film Carolyn plays "Raisa", a young witch well-read and well-versed in her craft. Here is the website for "Line of Descent".  Here is her Character Page from the website:

"Line of Descent" will be fund-raising on IndieGoGo.com in the near future.

Carolyn was cast a couple of weeks ago in another indie film being shot in Jacksonville called "Girl of My Dreams". She was cast originally as a speaking extra (two lines), but was taken aside at rehearsal last week and told they were going to write a bigger more featured part for her because they liked her screen-tests so much. (We're hoping that she gets a name, not just "Gossip Girl" haha!) This film is currently fund-raising on
IndieGoGo.

At the moment she is driving to Orlando to audition for a student film being produced at Full Sail, a college devoted to the entertainment arts. In general, I have heard that if you submit for 100 roles, you may get 10 responses, and then out of those ten, you may get 1 call-back. So far she has beat those odds in acting, but has yet to land a modeling job. She is only 5'3", so runway is kind of out of the realm, but I would think that she might have a shot at print.  What do you think?

These were from a recent "high fashion" shoot in Orlando.
In order to be taken seriously in auditioning for film, she needs to have a few clips on what is called a "reel" (like a portfolio). We are hoping that these films will produce work that showcases her talent and will fit well on her reel. Carolyn has passion for her chosen career, and passion for the people she will eventually work with, and I have no doubt she will be successful. She knows that God is in control of her path, and knows that the "mission field" she has chosen will be challenging, but is oh, so needy!

Prayers up, please! :-]

Shout! pictures :-]

Here are some of the costumes I did for "Shout, The Mod Musical" that is running at our high school.  This was a fun show to costume, and I really wanted to be as authentic as I could with what the script described and the time dictated.  My daughter Carolyn directed the show, so she introduced it.

The show is about five young women that make their way from 1962 to 1972, chronicled by the magazine "Shout" with its various features about fashion, music, and "coming of age" in the sixties.  As our disclaimer at the beginning of the show says, "We neither condone, nor condemn what went on in the Sixties Generation". haha...  Each of the women are characterized as a "color", which matches their personality.  Orange, Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.

Orange Girl--maternal and idealistic.

Red Girl--youthful and awkward.

Blue Girl--model, actress, in her "Mary Quant mini".

Green Girl--how can I put this nicely?  Um, the "free-spirit"... ;-]

Yellow Girl--"loud and thoughtless, quite possibly American".

Fashions changed through the years.  Here is the Blue Girl in her sequined top and plastic skirt:

Here is Orange Girl releasing her "Inner Purple".  She stays purple through the rest of the show.
Notice the Cage Dancer in the back.  We had two Cage Dancers.  I dressed one in a white dress with black fringe, and the other in a black dress with white fringe.  It was mesmerizing!  The ensemble girls I dressed in black and white bold prints. Similar to the psychodelic artwork of the day, but not in color so as to compete with the Color Girls.  You can see most of them here.

At the end they all had 70's costumes on.  I know I can relate to each one of these styles!
Hot pants with a bolero vest, the Maxi dress, long-sleeve top with mini skirt, print tunic with split bell-bottom jeans, and a long flowy scarf with a mini dress.

Welcome to my world! Next show is "Forbidden Broadway" opening in April.  That one will be loads of fun to costume and to watch.  The show parodies all the major hit musicals on Broadway in the past 20 years or so: Annie, Les Mis, Spam-a-Lot, Chicago, etc. And some of the more memorable stars: Carol Channing, Mandy Patinkin, Bebe Neuwirth...

Can't wait!

My Favorite Topic--Part 3

You already had a sneak peek of my third child, Carolyn. She arrived 5 years after my first, 3 1/2 years after my second.

Carolyn is our actress/singer. She is quite talented, having been on the public stage since age 7. She landed her first lead role at 10, Sara Crewe in "A Little Princess". Since then she has played Annie (Annie), The Cat in the Hat (Seussical the Musical), Charlie Bucket (Willy Wonka), her favorite role The Dodger (Oliver), and many many more. She has recently become interested in modeling and film acting.  She was a background actress in Nicolas Sparks' "The Last Song" (cutting room floor), and the girl two rows back on the aisle in the school bus scene in "Letters To God". (Movin' on up! ;-] )

She is also directing school productions. She put up "Nightfall With Edgar Allen Poe" this fall, and is currently directing "Shout, The 60's Mod Musical" for the spring.

Carolyn is single-minded and determined to make it in this business. She sees it as a mission field full of those who need to hear about the Lord. What an understatement! I know that she has the talent and confidence to achieve her goal. Not to be a "star", but to make a living at her craft. God has gifted her, and it will be thrilling to see how He uses her.
